diane arbus.

"Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats." - Diane Arbus

i was in london when i first saw a documentary featuring diane arbus. flipping through channels, it was the image of a set of twin girls with canyon-like eyes pulling you deep into a bottomless pit of chaos, depth, and irrefutable beauty that caught my attention. the photograph had reminded me of the eerie still-shot of the ghosts of two murdered twin girls, in stanley kubrick's the shining (1980), standing in a hallway holding hands. as the documentary continued, more and more familiar photographs kept enhancing my curiosity. many of arbus' photographs are just about capturing people, people in their most truest of essences, in a world where no shame exists, and where reality prevails over superficiality. it's real people, nakedly telling you a story; and at times "nakedly" could be taken quite literally.

arbus was an american photographer based in new york city. many of her works we're compiled during the 60's. here's a link to a compilation of her works: http://diane-arbus-photography.com/
